A Night of Wine & Jazz
On Saturday, April 27, Pass It On hosted its 4th Annual Fundraiser on the Davie Campus of Broward College. The new Fine Arts building atrium, decorated in a New Orleans Jazz theme, made for an exciting venue as guests mingled over wine and savory appetizers, and enjoyed the music of the Broward College Jazz Combo. The evening’s program provided information about PIO’s Skills Training and Employment Program (STEP) for youth transitioning out of foster care into independent living, as well as a presentation about the current Morris and Rhoda Wernick Community Fund Scholarship recipients, Trevor Strickland-Daycock, Nathalia Alzate and Hadar Arazi.
Additionally, there were raffle prizes and the excitement of a silent auction. And yes, someone won the bid to tour the Honey Fitz – the former Presidential yacht. While the goal of any fundraiser is to raise money – we feel our goals of meeting new people and having a fun evening for a good cause were also realized.
Special thanks to our sponsors – Center Street Communication, Suntrust Bank, and Behavioral Health Institute. Our Patrons and Friends of Pass It On also deserve recognition for their support. Raphael of A Flawless Image did a wonderful job with the photography. Our caterer, Exquisite Catering by Robert, provided an interesting variety of tasty food for us to enjoy.
Of course, any event like this cannot take place without the hard work of many volunteers. In addition to our Board Members, we want to recognize the members of the Wine and Jazz Committee for all their efforts in securing prizes, helping with arrangements, running errands, decorating, selling raffle tickets, tending bar, and setting everything up and taking it down at the end of the evening. A giant hug goes to Danielle Sylvester, our Broward College liaison, who helped with all the arrangements and also “ran the kitchen”. Last, but not least, our thanks to Sirena and Sydney, our servers for the evening. In the spirit of PIO, these two high school students gave up their Saturday night to volunteer and help make A Night of Wine & Jazz a special evening for everyone.
Tequila Sunrise a Success
On March 24, 2012, sixty-six friends and supporters of Pass It On came out to Tequila Sunrise in Oakland Park, FL for a fun evening of good food, drinks, and company. As guests enjoyed south Florida's best margaritas and tacos, PIO board members told the crowd about various ways that people can get involved with the organization, whether to help promote Pass It On from the comfort of their own home as part of the marketing committee, mentor a young person at one of Pass It On's training events, or lend a hand in organizing a future fundraising activity. For the rest of the evening, guests caught up with old friends and made some new ones. The Tequila Sunrise staff worked hard to keep the food coming and the drinks flowing, and the restaurant generously donated 20% of the checks to Pass It On.
Because of the event, several people have already expressed their interest in getting more involved in Pass It On, and if you didn't get an opportunity to talk with one of the PIO Board Members that night, don't hesitate to contact Pass It On's president, Ellie Nelson-Wernick, at firstname.lastname@example.org to ask how you can participate.
Pass It On thanks everyone who came out to show their support!
3rd Annual Wine & Jazz Event
On November 19th, guests were treated to a champagne welcome as they gathered for Pass It On’s 3rd Annual Wine & Jazz at ArtServe in Ft. Lauderdale. Guitarist James Kidwell performed live jazz as old and new friends enjoyed wine and savory appetizers and learned about Pass It On’s new career skills program for youth aging out of the foster care system: STEP.
We were excited to have Barbara Schechter from Heart Gallery display their portrait exhibit of children who are dreaming of finding their forever families. Barbara spoke about Heart Gallery’s mission of advocating for the adoption and enrichment of foster care children.
This year’s event proudly featured our Morris and Rhoda Wernick Community Scholarship recipients, Trevor Strickland-Daycock and Nathalia Alzate who mingled with guests and spoke about the positive impact the scholarships have had on their experiences at University of Florida. Trevor also wowed the audience with a piano performance of music by Elton John.
Pass It On also gratefully recognized Lois Marino from BankAtlantic with an award for her energy, passion and many contributions on behalf of the youth Pass It On serves. Lois has enthusiastically volunteered her time by serving on the Wine & Jazz committee, and has been instrumental in launching STEP.
Thank you to our Event Sponsor, Bilzin Sumberg, for their generous support, and to all who made Pass It On’s 3rd Annual Wine & Jazz Event a Success!
2nd Annual Wine & Jazz Event a Tremendous Success!
What a special evening for Pass It On. More than 90 guests gathered on November 13, 2010 at ArtServe to support the mission of helping disadvantaged and at-risk youth in South Florida. Our partners, Forever Family and clay artist Steven Sylvester spoke about the needs of young adults who are aging out of the foster care system, and the positive role of adult mentors in their lives.
Thank you to our Corporate Sponsors: Behavioral Health Institute, Spirit Airlines, Tiffany & Co., and to Exquisite Catering by Robert for providing delicious cuisine. BankAtlantic also contributed valuable support, including volunteer servers for the event, and many local businesses donated raffle prizes and items for our silent auction. Thank you to all who helped make the 2nd Annual Wine & Jazz Event a resounding success!
The Pass It On Golf Classic
Forty-eight players teed it up to help raise over $5,000
The inaugural Pass It On Golf Classic was held Friday, May 7, 2010 at Woodmont Country Club in Tamarac, FL. We had a terrific turnout, beautiful weather and everyone had a great time!

The 2009 Wine and Jazz was a Great Success
On November 21, 2009, WCF and Pass It On held its first big event as part of the 2009 fundraising campaign and to celebrate its one year anniversary. Sixty of its supporters attended the Wine and Jazz Event, which was held at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale. During the evening attendees were able to view the work of local artists, listen to wonderful jazz music, enjoy great wine and delicious food, and network with other supporters in the South Florida community. They also learned more about the organization’s mission, purpose, programs, goals for 2010, and how they could get involved.
Thanks to the sponsors’ generous donations, many of the attendees went home with great prizes! Thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success. Your generous contributions and support enable this organization to have a positive impact on the lives of South Florida’s youth and this could not be accomplished without you!
